Emulation is nothing new. Websites have made Emulators widely available for free for years now. However, what has changed are the emulators themselves. In the past, setting up a successful emulator has been tricky business, requiring terminal commands and permissions -altering procedures in order to get any worthwhile results.

Introducing the (WIP) best Mac emulators and tools that you can get your hands on.

Emulation is no longer hard to accomplish, even if you are new to Mac OS X.

VICE is a program that runs on a Mac OS X machine and executes programs intended for the old 8-bit computers.

The current version emulates the C64, the C64DTV, the C128, the VIC20, almost all PET models, the PLUS4 and the CBM-II (aka C610).

VirtualC64 emulates a Commodore 64 personal computer.

Plus4emu is an open source, portable emulator of the Commodore 264 family of computers (C16, C116, and Plus/4)

It implements accurate, high quality hardware emulation, however, the system requirements are higher than that of most other emulators.

Frodo was developed to reproduce Commodore 64 video with a higher degree of precision than existing emulators at the time.

It has now been superceded by projects such as Power64, but nevertheless still provides a solid and functional emulation.

Aimed to become the most accurate C64 Emulator. a High-End Computer is strongly recommended.

Mcro64 has two different VIC II emulation modes (both are half-cycle exact), single pixel dot clock exact, and dynamic pixel block-wise.

The keyboard graphic responds to mouse clicks, touch events, and key presses. Hold your shift key while clicking the PET keyboard to get the graphics characters. (The emulator simulates pressing the PET's left shift-key at the same time as the clicked key.) Changing the size of memory or changing the ROM version forces a reset of the PET.

New:The emulator now has an IEEE-488 device at address 8. It can be used load and save (.prg) files.

Power64 is an emulator for the Commodore C64.

It allows you to run your favorite C64 software on your Apple Macintosh (with PowerPC or intel-CPU (with Rosetta)) at full speed with smooth graphics and great sound.

Power20 is an emulator for the Commodore VIC-20.

t allows you to run your favorite VIC-20 software on your Apple Macintosh (with PowerPC or intel-CPU (with Rosetta)) at full speed with smooth graphics and great sound.

FS-UAE uses the latest Amiga emulation code from WinUAE.

Features emulation of Amiga machines, perfectly smooth scrolling on 50Hz displays, support for floppy images in ADF and IPF formats, CD-ROM images in ISO or BIN/CUE format.

E-UAE is based on the work of dozens of contributors.

E-UAE is open-source software and is made available under the terms of the GNU GPL. It attempts to bring many of the great features of WinUAE to non-Windows platforms.
